Lume application is fantastic. This actually surprised me given how thin the lume strips are. Nevertheless, the application of SuperLumiNova is consistent and thick making for a good replica omega Planet Ocean watch to read in low light conditions. Needle hands and hour markers are a thing of visual and functional beauty in my opinion. Over the dial is a curved sapphire crystal with a lot of AR coating. The top of it is mostly flat, but the sides are curved to replicate the look of acrylic crystals used for the original omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow replica watches. A similar crystal is used on the rear of the watch to offer a wonderfully impressive view of the movement. Like a bowl, the rear sapphire crustal allows for a stunning view of the large-sized, in-house made caliber. It just wouldn't be a without a tachymeter (tachymetre) scale bezel. Not that I would ever use it, but it is good to know that some things don't change. The bezel does help frame the design of the watch well, and offers a little piece of utility that people might have once used "back in the day". A little retro love never hurt anyone. Omega has always designed really nice watch cases. The new Speedmaster is no exception. Fit and finishing are good of course, and the overall design offers a grand look where the lugs work right into the side of the case. From the side, it looks like a layered sandwich. The crown is large, but not too big and sits into the case to help protect it. Chronograph pushers are simple and traditional in style. At its heart, the Speedmaster has always been the "nice conservative sports watch". It still is, and that is a really good thing in this context. In addition to having Omega's Co-Axial escapement that helps the watch maintain good time over the long run, the 9300 (9301) calibers are also COSC Chronometer rated. I found it to be reliable and it kept good time. There are a few tricks to the movement. First (like the caliber 8500 movement) you can adjust the hour hand in one hour increments to make it easy to switch to local time while travelling. Though this is also how you change the date (by rapidly advancing or going back in time).

The steel case is very solid and well-made, but also heavy. On the steel bracelet this is a watch. Not an issue for me at all, but some will prefer a lighter timepiece. Those people have two options. First they can opt for omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow replica 's excellent rubber strap with deployment clasp, or there is the titanium Seamaster PO with the blue dial. This one features either a titanium bracelet or rubber clasp. Let me again say that the rubber they use is among the best I've ever had. Wonderful look and feel, and the clasp works really nicely. The famous PO bracelet is a beautiful thing to look at and wears nicely. It does however lack the ability to micro-adjust the size. This means that it could offer the perfect fit, but also possibly be just a bit too large or small as you can only add and remove whole links. There might be a half-link option, but I am not sure. The design of the case and bracelet means that it should be comfortable if it is a bit looser than you might like, but purists like me want a precision fit. replica omega Planet Ocean sees the Planet Ocean as a Rolex Submariner competitor (and they are similar in price for the high-end POs). The Submariner does have a more sophisticated bracelet - so I would be surprised if Omega wasn't working on a new bracelet clasp for use in the future. The deployment clasp is push-button and operated very smoothly. So wearing the watch is overall really good, but what about reading it? Omega has long since been perfecting the dial of the Planet Ocean, but surprisingly it has remained very true to Omega watch dials from many decades ago. It is a retro dial that you'd never know is retro. The double broad arrow hands are well defined and properly sized. Arabic numerals mixed with large applied hour markers made for a handsome and very easy to read look. Those Arabic numerals come in orange on some other versions of the same watch. The dial has pretty much everything you need, and very little you to not. It is a very good balance of information markers and empty space - a virtue Omega has held for a long time. The black dialed version is actually textured - though you need to see it in the right light. The blue dialed version is more flat and glossy. I have to say that as good as the AR on the slightly domed sapphire crystal was - these dials proved to be a pain to photograph. Which is odd as they are really clear to the eye. This likely has to do with the mixture of matte and shiny elements on the dial (Omega does like to hint at bling a bit). Speaking of the sapphire crystal - it is very evenly cut and offers no discernible distortion when viewed at from extreme angles. The date windows are further done nicely. They have matching colors to the black dial and raised silver numerals - a great detail point.

Everyone knows the Omega, but all do not know every generation of the Speedmaster. Sure, there is modern-day automatic, the classic professional, the rarer caliber 321 "moon watch", the pre-professional, and the broad arrow, but what about that lost generation of Speedmasters made in that lost decade we call the 70s? There were some pretty whack'd watches made back then, and some even borrowed historic names, just like the watch we're talking about today. For a short period in the mid to late 70s, replica omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow GMT produced a digital version of the Speedmaster. We're not talking an X-33, but rather a legit, Casio-looking, mo fo. Now Omega made their fair share of digital timepieces during the 70s, but they usually had appropriately campy names like The Time Computer, and it's shocking to see them jeopardize the best thing they have going for them (the Speedmaster) like this. Then again, this is a part of the conundrum that is Omega. For years and years, Omega was the pinnacle sport watch company, above even the mighty Rolex. Then what happened? Well, watches like this, that's what happened, and the brand reputation took a nosedive. As for the watch itself, it really held the same functionality you'd later find in a $10 Casio. And while they are most certainly authentic replica omega Seamaster 300m, and even Speedmasters at that, don't expect to pay too much for them, if you can find one. Perhaps our favorite part of this digital Speedmaster is how it reads "No jewels, unadjusted" inside the caseback. There is definitely something about this watch that we like, and it is one of the few digitals we'd wear, but again, this watch is a shining example of why Omega brand prestige isn't what it once was, and never will be again. Well today we have a brand new Omega Speedmaster for you, one made in a limited edition run of only 50 pieces, one that had a retail price of $49,000 when new, and one that we have never, ever seen before. This Omega Speedmaster is circa 1994, and comes with a platinum skeletonized face. Did we mentioned it's been skeletonized and decorated by Mr. Armin Strom himself? Why does that name sound familiar? Because Armin Strom is now the patriarch of an eponymously named brand that we called the boutique brand of the future. This watch was created upon special contract with Omega 15 years ago and as the description says, you are unlikely to see one of these for sale ever again. Granted we are younger than some Omega Speedmaster nuts, but we've never even heard someone mention this watch, let alone find one available for purchase.

Wrist-Alarms are all the rage right now here on Hodinkee. After all, we're giving one away and over 120 people have entered to win it! Unfortunately, only person will be chosen to win the Luminox below, so we thought we'd offer up some consolation. We have found a great vintage wrist-alarm from replica omega Seamaster 300mcalled the Memomatic, and it's actually affordable. The Memomatic is a funky alternative to the JLC Memovoxes that are most often associated with automatic wrist alarms. The one we have found today is from the early 1970s, features a large case (40mm X 43mm), and original, signed everything. This includes the case, crown, face, and movement. Speaking of the movement, it is an original replica omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow GMT 19 jewel auto-alarm movement, one you don't find every day. The orange and grey face of this Memomatic adds a lot to the character of this watch, and for a vintage automatic Omega with a complication like this, you could do a lot worse. In fact, the price of this Omega is pretty reasonable, $1,199 to be exact. We think this is a great sport watch, one you certainly won't find any of your friends wearing...also an Omega with a wrist-alarm for this price? Not too bad at all. Omega is a favorite of just about everyone we know. In fact, it was an old Omega Speedmaster Automatic that first inspired our love for watches way back when. Their history of mechanical achievements and pop-culture relevance is matched perhaps only by Rolex, and the Omega brand continues to grow stronger every year. Demand for Omegas has remained incredibly strong, especially for classic models like the Speedmaster, so it was a pleasant surprise when Portero informed us they would be holding a private sale of just Omegas. We had to give you guys the inside scoop on what will be offered, so here it is. Below are just some examples of the models available at heavily discounted prices in next week's Omega sale on Portero Private: The Omega sale begins this coming Tuesday (June 2) at 12 Noon EST on Portero Private. If you are not yet a member of Portero Private but would like to gain access to this sale and all future sales.Again, the watches mentioned above are just a small cross-sampling of what will be available next week. We can't wait to see what else they'll have. Be sure to let us know if you buy anything! (And yes, we'll be competing to get that Broad Arrow Speedmaster so anybody else out there interested, watch out!)

In a remake of a 1969 classic watch, the OMEGA Seamaster Bullhead 1969 features a 43 mm steel case, which houses the Omega-caliber 3113 that bases on Frdric Piguet chronograph caliber. Recently, on a 3-continent tour with to witness its newest boutique openings, I had the amazing opportunity to spend the week with the Ladies Saxonia Automatic on my wrist. This watch is beautiful – simply, elegantly, comfortably beautiful.

Stunning dial of the Saxonia Automatic
The 18-karat pink gold watch house sthe Lange manufacture caliber L086.4 self-winding movement with 209 parts and 31 jewels. Made of untreated German silver, the movement is lavishly and meticulously hand engraved — and visible via the sapphire case back. This proved to be a slight problem for watch-loving me, who kept wanting to take the watch off and look at the movement. It offers 72 hours of power reserve when fully wound and that was just fine- as this was a watch I didn’t want to take off my wrist.

Back of the Saxonia Automatic
From the dial side, the watch is

equally as beautiful thanks to the soft-hued pink gold, meticuloulsy set with diamonds on the case and featuring a solid silver white tint faced with mother-of-pearl dial. The newest watch is a beauty. The Carrera 1887 Chronograph features an integrated column-wheel automatic chronograph movement in an updated design of the legendary series that was first designed by Jack Heuer in 1964. Still an icon, this Carrera’s caliber was developed in-house by utilizing intellectual property elements acquired from Seiko Instruments Inc. (which designed and patented it as TC78 in 1997/99). After acquiring the intellectual property rights, devoted three years to re-engineering and redeveloping many key components, and is now launching its caliber commercially in this watch. The Carrera 1887 Chronograph features a tachymeter scale on the bezel to underscore its auto-racing heritage. It is water resistant to 100 meters and is fitted with a sapphire crystal caseback for viewing the movement. It is offered in steel and in 18-karat roes gold that celebrates the brand’s 150th anniversary.

In about a year or so, Omega will release a new film called Planet Ocean. The name is actually fitting as the film will be wholly funded by Omega and produced to increase environmental awareness of threats to our oceans. The film will be produced by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, a well-known French environmentalist film maker. Likely offered under a Creative Common license, the film will be available to anyone who wants to show it without cost. replica omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow wants to get more into the preservation business and is using this experience to test that out. Environmentalism usually comes with a guilt-filled message that feels like a slap on the wrist. Planet Ocean the film is intended, rather, to highlight how and why people should want to protect our environment. I recall that environmental messages became popular back in the 1980s when I was a kid. I still remember many of the brands who funded those educational campaigns which, ironically, were mostly oil and manufacturing companies. From a marketing standpoint, replica omega Seamaster 300m will never be happy enough with a good product. There are a lot of watch brands with a good product that youll never hear about. Omegas power as a brand gives it the ability to offer the holy trinity of marketing which includes a quality product promise, awareness campaigns and wide distribution. Interviewing Omegas CEO Stephen Urquahart is always enlightening. A knowledgeable man, Urquhart comes across as a man who appreciates the high-level of responsibility involved in running a brand like Omega. Each design probably includes a degree of you cant please everyone. The pluses and minuses of choices are balanced with the long-term good of the brand. While maintaining brand DNA, and those items which Omega are best known for, the brand must also innovate. At the same time, Omega is striving to upgrade its status in the market place a move many brands seem to aspire to. I dont quite understand the motives behind this latter goal as Omega is currently able to sell a very large amount of watches every year. My suspicion is that it has a lot to do with the more long-term goal on increasing the value perception of mechanical watches to a mass public used to Quartz watches. Omegas goal is to drastically reduce its sale of quartz movement based watches in favor of mechanical ones many of which Omega plans to produce themselves. For these products to do as well, they require a more mainstream adoption of the value proposition of a well-made mechanical movement versus a quartz one.

The replica omega Seamaster 300m was an 18k gold watch with a black leather strap. Not exactly an icon by itself, but having been worn by Kennedy throughout his term as President, and after First Lady Jackie Kennedy wrote a letter to Grant Stockdale thanking him for the "thinnest most elegant wristwatch", we at Hodinkee are prepared to say that this is a piece of Americana with a back-story that rivals almost any other. And if that wasn't enough to justify this timepiece in our readers' eyes, maybe this will: in February 2008, replica omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow announced that they would be unveiling a commemorative edition of Kennedy's Ultra-Thin, in a limited production of 261 pieces, and at a retail price of $8,250. I guess you could say that icons beget icons, huh? That being said, neither Tourneau nor Omega themselves had much to say about the release date of the JFK watch when contacted. In December of 2005, Guernsey's in New York auctioned off the Stockdale watch, with the winning bid coming from Omega themselves, at $350,000. They purchased the iconic timepiece for the Omega Museum in Biel, Switzerland, where it now resides, right next to the first Speedmaster Professional to make it to the moon. Maybe it's because he was a Kennedy. Maybe it's because he was the youngest person ever elected POTUS (that's "President of the United States"). Maybe it's because he was an officer in the Navy, or that he had a penchant for sailing, booze, and the finer things in life. Maybe it's because he was the consummate man, the politician and the playboy all in one. No matter how you cut it, JFK is a icon of American history on so many levels. And icons have a tendency (whether deliberate or not) to create icons out of people and objects around them. Today we draw your attention to the "Stockdale watch." In 1960, a friend of John Kennedy's named Grant Stockdale presented him with an Omega Ultra-Thin watch as a gift. On the back, it was engraved "President of the United States John F. Kennedy from his friend Grant". "What is so strange about that?" you might ask. Well, did you notice what year Stockdale bequeathed the watch to the young Irishman? That's right, 1960. And when was Kennedy sworn in as President? Yes, 1961. This was somewhat presumptuous of Mr. Stockdale, as Kennedy had yet to be elected president. But history worked itself out and on January 20, 1961, Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th President of the United States. When you know, you know. And what was the watch on his wrist as he was sworn in? That's right; it was the Stockdale watch, captured brilliantly in a photograph published in LIFE magazine at the inauguration ceremony.
